Spill Response Training
Spillages of fuel, chemicals or foods can be seriously damaging to the environment and also to an organisations reputation. Our training is designed to provide organisations and individuals with the knowledge, skills and experience they require to adequately manage potential risks and to respond to a spill incident if one should occur.
Oracle operate spill response and remediation services across the UK and have many years of experience in responding to spills of fuel, such as kerosene and diesel, agricultural spills, such as slurry and digestate, and foodstuffs, such as milk.
We offer a range of training packages which include both theory and practical elements to give hands on experience of dealing with a spill incident. All training covers health and safety considerations and relevant legislation. Each course can be tailored to reflect site-specific risks, roles and operational realities, supporting confident, effective response when it matters. We can create any bespoke courses that are within our skills and capabilities.
Our training is designed to provide organisations and individuals with the knowledge, skills and confidence to adequately respond and manage potential spill incidents. The courses have been designed along ISAS training accreditation standards with our many years of experience in spill response and remediation. Our experience in responding to spills of fuel, such as kerosene and diesel, agricultural spills, such as slurry and digestate, and foodstuffs, such as milk, are integrated.
Additionally, training is a core part of our Plan | Audit | Train | Respond approach, ensuring preparedness is built in throughout your organisation. By delivering each area, we aim to give that consistency and have your arrangements all align via: auditing of sites, update and development of a contingency plans, delivering standardised training, and supporting your responses. That consistency reduces your compliance risk and can help to cut the chaos if an incident does occur.
Training modules available include:
Introduction to Inland Oil Spill Response Training – This training module introduces the fundamentals of inland spill response and is aimed at personnel who are likely to be first on the scene in the event of a spill incident. The course covers the contents and use of spill kits, assessment and identification of impacts to the wider environment such as drains or watercourses, and teaches attendees how to properly deploy absorbents to minimise environmental impacts. Our ISAS approved training course covers response to spills on hard-standing, within drainage systems, and spills which have impacted inland watercourses.
Oil Spill Response for Managers – This course is designed to provide managers with the fundamental understanding of what to do when an oil spill occurs including identification of sources, pathways and receptors, and how to implement a spill response strategy to mitigate the impact of an oil spill. This course also provides a summary of relevant environmental law including legislation relating to pollution prevention, enforcement action following a spill and legislation to cover remedial activities and examples of case law.
Spill Contingency Planning — This module provides guidance on best practice for the storage and handling of hazardous materials and teaches the skills to identify potential future spill sources, how they may impact the environment and how to manage the risks. Delegates will have a deeper understanding of hazard identification, the assessment of environmental sensitivity of your sites, the identification of potential spill scenarios and the assessment of risk associated with spill incidents. Delegates will also have a better understanding of different response strategies they can employ to manage any spills that may occur.
Soil Sampling & Screening, and Use & Maintenance of PIDs — In this course delegates learn how to collect soil samples to help assess the nature and extent of oil impact and how to maintain and operate a Photo-Ionisation Detector (PID) to help determine the extent of the contamination of a spill and its associated impact in ambient air, soils, drainage systems and building structures. Delegates will also learn how to use sampling and screening to confirm that sufficient remediation work has been completed. The course is aimed at those who want to expand their understanding of hydrocarbon spill investigation and remediation.
All training is delivered by our experienced consultants and engineers who have many years of practical experience in responding to spill incidents in a variety of environments.
