Skimmer Systems

Oil Skimmers for removing oil from water

Oil skimmers are devices that efficiently remove oil from water, mitigating potential environmental harm associated with oil spill incidents. Oil skimmers operate on the principle that oil, being less dense than water, naturally floats to the surface of a water body. Skimmers recover the oil using physical and mechanical methods, effectively separating the oil from the water. This method forms the primary and preferential method of oil recovery from water.

By effectively removing oil from water, oil skimmers significantly reduce the overall environmental impacts following the release of oil into the environment. As they target the removal of the oil, skimmers also limit volumes of water for treatment or disposal and as such, they actively support our commitment to sustainable remediation solutions.

Oil Skimmer options

OEE hold a variety of selective (oleophilic) and non-selective oil skimmers, including the following:

  • Weir skimmers – Inlet adjustable, easy to use, lightweight, recovery of oils and also able to recover other floating debris (nurdles, plastics, weeds, etc). The skimmer can operate in shallow or deep calm waters, working alongside a separation and/or filtration system.

  • Passive skimmers – adjustable, easy to use, lightweight, for the recovery of oils and can be installed in narrow diameter wells. The skimmer can operate with other pumps and allow continuous recovery through its oleophilic filter selection.

  • Belt and disk skimmers – adjustable, easy to use, lightweight, for the recovery of oils from boreholes and separators. The belts can be interchangeable depending on the type of oil and are oleophilic.
