Pump and Treat
and NAPL Recovery
Contaminated groundwater and non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) can be pumped from the subsurface, treated above ground, and discharged under the appropriate consents/permits.
Our pump and treat systems can be used to treat source zones and manage/contain contaminant plume migration.
Our high specification modular systems range from 1-30m3/hr treatment capabilities.
Their modular design allows us to rapidly upscale or downscale the treatment capability should requirements change mid-project.
Our pump and treat systems include settlement of suspended solids, multi-stage separation through coalescing media, filtration using granular activated carbon. Additional air sparging before or after filtration can be utilised to further reduce contaminant concentrations in treated water to extend the life of adsorption media (e.g. granular activated carbon (GAC) / Ion Exchange Resin) and reduce the frequency of filter replacement.
A variety of pump and treat options and services can be used to meet site-specific requirements and we operate and maintain a range of pumping capabilities for the abstraction of contaminated water from boreholes, sumps, wells, and surface waters
Recovery of LNAPL and dissolved phase contaminants using top-loading pneumatic ATEX certified pumps at depths of up to 70 m;
Recovery of LNAPL and dissolved phase contaminants from shallow groundwater using surface mounted ATEX certified air-operated double diaphragm (AODD) pumps to depths of up to 7m;
Recovery of LNAPL from sumps, wells and surface water using floating skimmers coupled with ATEX AODD pumps;
Recovery of dissolved phase hydrocarbon contaminated water using sensor controlled electric submersible pumps.
Our Pump & Treat and LNAPL Recovery Solutions
Cost: It is often significantly cheaper to treat groundwater and stormwater on site, rather than paying to transport it off site for disposal.
Time: Treating groundwater and stormwater on site can be done on a continuous basis and can avoid any construction programme delays in dealing with water
The Benefits of Pump & Treat and NAPL Recovery
Sustainability: Treating contaminated groundwater on-site has a lower carbon footprint and targeting NAPL can reduce treatment volumes.
Health: Reduced risk of human exposure to contaminated water.

NAPL Recovery Case Study
Free Phase Diesel Recovery from Groundwater.
Red diesel contamination was identified in an ornamental pond at a large hotel and wedding venue, likely from an unknown source. This case study provides an overview of how we managed the situation and removed over 940 litres of free-phase diesel from the site.
Ex-situ Pump & Treat Gasholder Dewatering Case Study
Dewatering, Silt Settlement and Ammonia Removal.
The client required the accumulated water within the disused Victorian gasholder to be removed to allow its demolition and the redevelopment of the site for high-end housing.
This case study outlines the cost-saving benefits of an on-site pump-and-treat solutions.
